Motor Vehicle Repairs Level 2

Duration: ten (10) months

Location: Caribbean Military Technical Training Institute (Cornwall)

Overview

This competency-based course prepares students in the core skills for entry-level positions in the Automotive Technology Industry as a vehicle repair technician.

Objectives

  • Applying health and safety practices in the workplace
  • Performing bench work operations
  • Welding
  • Service and repair cooling system
  • Repair and maintain electrical system
  • Service and repairing brake system
  • Disassemble/ assembling cylinder head
  • Disassemble/ assembling engine bottom blocks and subassemblies
  • Service and repair motor vehicle engines
  • Service and repairing fuel system
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures
  • Service and repairing automatic transmission
  • Service and repairing manual transmission
  • Service and repair air brake system
  • Service and repairing steering and suspension system components
  • Repair ignition systems

Entry Requirement

Any NVQ-J Level 1 certification or successful completion of the HEART NSTA Trust Diagnostic Test or at least one (1) CSEC or GCE subjectAny NVQ-J Level 1 certification or successful completion of the HEART NSTA Trust Diagnostic Test or at least one (1) CSEC or GCE subject

Qualification Gained

NVQ-J Level 2 Certificate in Motor vehicle Engine Systems. The NVQ-J Certification is recognized in all CARICOM and Commonwealth countries.

Motor Vehicle Repairs Level 3

Duration: twelve (12) months (Part Time)

Location: Caribbean Military Technical Training Institute (Cornwall)

Overview

This competency-based course prepares students in the core skills required for supervisor positions in the Automotive Technology Industry as an advanced vehicle repair technician and/or supervisor.

Objectives

  • Install, test and repair electrical circuit/lighting and systems
  • Service and repair starting and charging systems
  • Diesel fuel systems service, maintenance and repairs
  • Repair automatic transmission
  • Inspect vehicle systems/components and determine preferred repair action
  • Diagnose and overhaul electrical systems and components
  • Diagnose and overhaul hydraulic braking system and components
  • Diagnose and overhaul steering system components
  • Diagnose and overhaul manual/automatic transmission
  • Diagnose and overhaul engines and associated engine components
  • Air conditioning diagnosis, service and repairs
  • Carry out basic mechanical cutting operations
  • Perform technical computations (Advanced)
  • Write technical reports (Advanced)
  • Leadership skills
  • Carry out data entry and retrieval procedures

Entry Requirement

NVQ-J Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Repairs

Qualification Gained

  • NVQ-J Level 3 (Diploma) in Motor Vehicle Repairs. The NVQ-J Certification is recognized in all CARICOM and Commonwealth countries.
