General Construction Level 2

Duration: ten (10) months

Overview

This course was designed to produce skilled artisans in the general construction field. The course introduces students to residential and commercial construction, basic setting out, levelling, excavation, steel fixing, concrete work, brick/block laying and basic timber wall frames. The course combines theory with practical activities.

Entry Requirement

NVQ-J Level 1 - General Construction or successful completion of the HEART NSTA Trust Diagnostic Test or at least one (1) CSEC or GCE subject

Qualification Gained

NVQ-J Level 2 Certificate in General Construction. The NVQ-J Certification is recognized in all CARICOM and Commonwealth countries.

General Construction Level 3

Duration: eight (8) months

Location: Caribbean Military Technical Training Institute

Overview

This course is designed to produce students with the supervisory knowledge and manipulative skills for employment in the construction industry. The course covers residential and commercial construction including setting out, tile laying, introduction to management, slump test, reinforcement schedules and timber wall frames. The course combines theory with practical activities.

• Construct and install non-load bearing internal partition wall
• Install exterior cladding
• Install windows to wall framing
• Apply paint by spray
• Tile laying
• Read and interpret building plan
• Setting out of building
• Preparation of reinforcement schedule

• Carry out concrete slump test

• NVQ-J Level 3 Diploma in General Construction. The NVQ-J Certification is recognized in all CARICOM and Commonwealth countries.
