Ship Team Dive (STD) Basic Scuba Course

Duration: eight (8) weeks

Location: Caribbean Military Maritime Training Centre

Overview

The aim of this Course is to provide candidates with the specialized training in the employment and operation of SCUBA equipment and enable them to plan and execute underwater operations.

Objectives

  • Dive physics
  • First aid
  • Dive medicine
  • Dive supervisor training
  • Problem solving (HITS) use of air decompression tables, underwater communication, emergency procedures, hull searches, hull inspection, rope work, bottom searches and salvage operations

Training will include physical training on each training day with a physical test at the beginning of each week. There will be a final qualifying dive of 130 feet near the end of the course

Entry Requirements

The candidates must:

  • Have attained C3 (Basic Seaman General Duties) seamanship qualification or equivalent
  • Must be medically cleared by home country for SCUBA diving
  • Current BFST and MST or equivalent
  • Must be at a high level of fitness to do the aptitude test which will be done at the beginning of each week. The aptitude test comprises:
    • 500 yard swim in less than 14 minutes
    • 50 push ups in less than 2 minutes
    • 70 sit ups in less than 2 minutes
    • 6 pull ups (no timings)
    • 1.5 mile run in less than 13 minutes

Qualification Gained

  • Military Qualification: Biannually Certificate
  • Civil Qualification: The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Open Water Diver
